Are you at a crossroads in life? Is change coming so hard and fast you aren’t always clear what way is up? Is fear of what “might happen next” beginning to cloud out the bright ray of hope and joy? The tendency of humanity to step into fear is not an insignificant one and I feel certain this is why the Scriptures tell us so frequently, “FEAR NOT!”
Throughout the month of May United Christian Parish (UCP) will offer a five week sermon series on “A Passion for the Possible.” Because each week will build on the previous we encourage you to make every effort to be here each Sunday in May and particularly to make this first day of the series! For those that like to think more deeply on the message, a companion book recommended during this season of change is The Art of Possibility by Rosamund and Benjamin Zander. This is not specifically a Christian book, but it is nevertheless one of the most inspiring and hopeful books on living in times of change available today and offers 10 practices individuals can engage to better live into what is possible. The book is easily available in print, but if you have a way to listen to the audio version it is preferable. Ben Zander is the Conductor of the Boston Philharmonic and often uses musical illustrations that are more satisfying to hear than read.
This first message in the series will focus on recognizing the DIFFERENCE between what God has created and what we have created as a necessary step into gaining a vision for what is possible as we move into our future.
UCP is offering this series on times of change because they too are in a time of transition. Pastor Shannon has been the minister at UCP for 17 years but this will be her last sermon series before concluding her ministry in Lakeport in June. UCP is located at 745 N Brush St and the service beings at 10 a.m. For more information call 263-4788. The office is open Tuesday to Thursday from 9-1.
