LAKEPORT >> Kelseyville built a 4-0 lead and held on to beat the Clear Lake Cardinals 4-3 in a North Central League I junior varsity baseball game on Friday in Lakeport.

The Knights scored twice in the fourth and twice in the fifth. Clear Lake came back with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Losing pitcher Kyle Ashworth worked five innings and allowed four runs on 10 hits while striking out two and walking two. Jason Garrison relieved and blanked the Knights on one hit over the final two innings.

Chris White went 2-for-3 and stole two bases for Clear Lake. Garrison went 1-for-3 with a double and both Blair Hayes and Abe Ojeda added hits.

“We had opportunities to score runs, it just didn’t happen,” Clear Lake coach John Garrison said of the 10 runners stranded by the Cardinals. “We got Preston Jones back from the varsity and he made some nice plays at shortstop. He’s going to help down the stretch.”

Clear Lake is 1-6 in league and 3-7 overall.

The Cardinals return to action today in Middletown to play the first-place Mustangs. First pitch is 4 p.m.

Kelseyville statistics were not reported.
