LAKEPORT >> The Lakeport City Council will consider awarding a construction contract for the Bevins Street Pavement Rehabilitation project at its regular meeting today.

According to city documents, staff is recommending that the low bidder, Granite Construction Company, be given the bid at a cost just less than $413,000 — approximately $30,000 over what was estimated.

“Over half this amount was due to higher than expected prices for the hot mix asphalt,” City Engineer Paul Curren said, noting that the money will come from state Highway User Tax Account Funds. “There are sufficient funds in this account to cover the cost of the project.”

If awarded, the projected would be broken up into two segments: Lakeport Boulevard to 200 feet north of Bevins Court and then all the way to Martin Street. Both sections have pavement failures, especially the latter which, Curren said, has “completely failed” and needs six inches of new hot mix asphalt.

The city received a total of two bids for the project. The other was for about $463,000 from Mendocino Construction Services.

“I’m excited, if council approves this, to get started and help people who use it,” Public Works Superintendent Douglas Grider said. “It’s a possibility of getting Bevins Street done.”
