Follow the Constitution
I would like to comment on the Guest Editorial by Devon Minnema in the Friday Record-Bee.
This young man has made some excellent points which should be of utmost importance in the up coming election, the separation of powers
In the Us Constitution which have been torn to pieces by the present administration.
Our President is not a King; he has said so himself a number of times but acts like the Congress does not exist by issuing Executive Orders over-riding laws passed by the Congress and signed into law.
While it is true that other Presidents have issued more EO’s than Obama most dealt with minor adjustments and clarifications not new law.
The document created, after much argument, by the Founders set out a clear separation of powers which has served the country well up to now.
It is my opinion that the up coming election is more about the Rule of Law and the up-holding of The Constitution than the possible change of which party runs our National Government.
Our history has been a nation where the people could rely on a steadfast belief that the laws passed by Congress would be enforced by the Executive Branch and not ignored just because they disagreed with what Congress passed.
The people must have confidence that the laws passed by those elected to pass our laws will be enforced as passed not ignored.
We cannot last long as a Republic if we cannot count on the Executive Branch to do it’s job as put forward in the Constitution.

In good humor
This is one of the Greatest Political campaigns this country has ever seen. Also one of the funniest. Channel 2 news, Friday, April 29, 2016, 5 p.m. Hillary says “I have a lot of experience with men who leave the reservation.” Is she talking about Bill?

Opposed to Scheel
I am quite amazed that people continue to display support signs for Martin Scheel, who is running for District 4 Supervisor’s Seat.
Mr. Scheel, the owner of Konocti Construction back in 2010, apparently had an unfortunate accident when his crane fell into Clear Lake. Lacking the funds or insurance to remove the crane and do a cleanup forced the county to pay the costs. These “costs,” amounting to more than $50,000 came out of the General Fund, comprised of our tax dollars.
The five Supervisors attending the Board Meeting back on January 25, 2011 unanimously voted to abate the nuisance if not taken care of by Mr. Scheel . All costs associated with this case were to be included in an action taken against Mr. Scheel and Konocti Marina Construction.
Over 5 years have passed and that bill remains unpaid. The subject resurfaced again in December 2015 when Mr. Scheel announced his candidacy for Supervisor Farrington’s soon to be vacated seat. Farrington said he would not endorse him as he had not taken responsibility for the crane incident. Scheel quickly responded he had done everything he could to cooperate with the county but never received a bill so left his debt unpaid.
Supervisors Brown and Comstock stated the County had dropped the ball in establishing a deal.
So I am quite bewildered that someone like this would seek office and ask for your support. Martin Scheel has used the County’s money to cover his debt. Has this been an interest free loan funded by the tax payers? I also question how the Board of Supervisors just overlooked these unpaid thousands for so many years
I have lived and worked in Lake County for over 30 years. I have seen its struggles, and they are many, being designated one of the poorest counties in California. In these difficult times we need good governance. We need people we can respect and trust.
In my opinion, we do not need Martin Scheel.
