YOUNTVILLE >> Scoring all of their runs with two outs, the Kelseyville Knights rode the pitching of Logan Barrick to a 4-0 North Central League I varsity baseball win over the St. Helena Saints on Tuesday afternoon at the Veterans Home field in Yountville.
It was just a 1-0 game entering the seventh inning.
“It was one of those games going into the fifth inning where even if we had lost today, it’s a great game,” Kelseyville coach Lou Poloni said. “St. Helena turned two double plays and their center fielder took away three hits from us.”
Before the seventh, the game’s lone run came in the top of the fifth when Devin Dugger tripled with two outs and scored on a hard-hit grounder off the bat of Zack Villalobos that ricocheted off St. Helena’s second baseman for an error.
In the seventh, Kyle Ellis’ two-out RBI single and a two-run single off the bat of Noah Lyndall (2-for-3) gave Barrick a little more breathing room. The junior finished with a three-hitter, striking out eight and walking three.
Kelseyville is the only undefeated team in the NCL I standings at 9-0. Cloverdale is one game back at 8-1.
“Most focused I’ve seen us a a team in the last five years … across the board,” Poloni said. “We only have two strikeouts (at the plate) in the last 13 innings.”
The Knights are 13-2 overall.
Kelseyville is home Friday to play Willits at 4 p.m.
