REDDING >> The Good News Rescue Mission officially launched the promotion of their first ever “Lift ‘Em Up” event, to be held May 20 at the Mount Shasta Mall in Redding.
The event is structured as a three week fundraising campaign that encourages business, churches and service clubs to creatively raise money by hosting their own small-scale fund raisers or simply by asking friends, family and colleagues to sponsor them. On event day, teams will compete atop a scissor lift in one final hour-long fund raising push as they are lifted up in proportionate to their team’s overall fund raising success, with the top lift declared the winning team.
“This event, the title, everything was designed around what we’re trying to do for people in need in our community, to lift them up,” said Mission Event Coordinator, Sabrina Charlson, “because so many people just need a small hand up to get back on their feet again.”
The event is a mix between a jail-and-bail style event and a jog-a-thon and is a simple way for the community to help break the cycles of poverty in our community. Teams formed thus far include businesses and churches such as Cronic Disaster Services, InterWest Insurance, Brent Weaver, Risen King Community Church and many more.

The Good News Rescue Mission was founded in Redding in 1964 by a group of concerned Christians in our community. For thousands of men, women and children, the Mission has provided food, shelter, clothing, and spiritual hope through the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Since 1995, the Mission has expanded services to include the New Life Drug and Alcohol Recovery programs for men and women, transitional housing for graduates of that program, work search, free dental services, our “Journey Home” family reunification program as well as education and job readiness programs through our Academic Center.
