Doing the unexpected
Galilee Lutheran Church
Lay leader, Doug Andre
In this week’s lesson, Paul and Silas are slapped into prison for the crime of driving a fortune-telling demon out of a slave woman and depriving her owner of the economic benefits of owning a fortune-teller. While chained up that night, an earthquake shakes the prison, the cell doors pop open, and the chains of all the captives are loosed.
The jailer expects to find the prisoners gone, and his own life forfeit for their escape, so imagine his surprise when he runs down to the dungeon and finds Paul and Silas still there, singing and praying away like nothing had happened.
Followers of Jesus are like that — they don’t always do what you expect them to do. Sometimes they seem downright illogical. But they’re operating under a different set of rules than the rest of the world. It’s a new paradigm. And it makes no sense to the average person, or the average jailer.
That’s the lesson. But to find out how Doug is going to interpret it, you’ll still going to have to be there.
Galilee’s service begins at 10 a.m., at 8860 Soda Bay Road, just around the corner from Konocti Harbor Inn. We welcome everyone.
