LOWER LAKE >> Azuree Meza and Jolean Scarborough can’t be too unhappy with their day at the plate Monday as Lower Lake swept the Willits Wolverines 6-4 and 13-3 in a North Central League I softball doubleheader at Lower Lake.

Meza went 3-for-3 with a triple and a RBI in the opener and 5-for-5 with three doubles and four RBIs in the second game as Lower Lake improved to 10-3 in the league standings and 17-6 overall. Scarborough went 1-for-3 in the first game and 4-for-5 with four runs scored, a double and a RBI in game two.

“They were both spark plugs for us,” Lower Lake coach Chris Emberson said of Scarborough and Meza, who hit 1-2 in Lower Lake’s batting order.

Willits (1-13) was the home team in game one when Lower Lake rallied from a 3-2 deficit with a three-run top of the fifth. RBIs by Kristen Celli, Ashlynn Mock and Destiny Apodaca put Lower Lake ahead to stay.

In game two, the Trojans spotted Willits a 2-0 lead in the top of the first but dominated the remainder of the game and ended up winning in six innings because of the 10-run rule. They scored in every inning.

Mock was the winning pitcher in both games, going the distance in game one and five of the six innings in game two.

Scarborough also stole four bases on the day.

Lower Lake closes out its league and regular-season schedule on Saturday against Clear Lake in Lakeport at 11 a.m. The North Coast Section seeding meeting is Sunday.
