Who does it describe?

In her letter of May 17, Ellen Karnowski describes many deficiencies of the Trump campaign, without mentioning the candidate by name. She also does not advocate for “any one candidate.”

Karnowski does, however, state that we look for leaders who are honest, trustworthy, and fair-minded, leading me to assume that she does not support Hillary Clinton. Those adjectives, after all, are even less descriptive of Hillary than they are of The Donald.

Vote for Rosenthal

We encourage residents of District 1 to vote for Monica Rosenthal for County Supervisor this June 7.

We first became acquainted with Monica during her work in support of Measure N. Following that, she worked tirelessly to help relocate people and animals and rebuild communities in the wake of the devastating Valley Fire, and she continues her efforts to revitalize the areas that were so badly burned.

In today’s parlance, Monica walks the walk. She is not only personable and a team player, she is a leader with a wealth of experience that makes her ideally suited to be County Supervisor and tackle the challenges facing Lake County.

Monica served as the District 1 representative on the Lake County Planning Commission and has represented the 1st District on the Lake County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for the last 5 years. She is currently serving her second term on the Napa/Lake Work Force Investment Board to promote employment training and job opportunities in Lake County.

U.S. Representative Mike Thompson recently named Monica Lake County’s Woman of the Year for her years of public service, including her work to grow the County’s economy, her support for foster youth and seniors, and for her organizing the highly successful Economic Outlook and Forecast event held last December which was attended by almost 200 County and business leaders.

Monica Rosenthal will serve Lake County admirably. We hope the voters in the communities of District 1 take a good look at their options and vote for Monica on June 7.

For more on Monica’s experience and capabilities, visit her web site at www.monicaforsupervisor.com. You’ll be impressed. We sure are!

Vote for Brumfield

There are several good candidates running for District 1 Supervisor Race to replace Jim Comstock, who is retiring. My vote is for Voris Brumfield who served two prior terms in the role. Voris has the intellect, hard working drive and experience needed for this position.

Years ago my husband Bill van Pelt and I were establishing our quarry business, Clear Lake Lava. We had a serious issue with Lake County Air Pollution Agency, which decided our quarry was lethal. The man in charge pushed it through the courts until we had $40,000 in legal fees.

We contacted Voris, who then contacted Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Their Virginia headquarters contacted Lake County agency and proved they were wrong and that there was no hazard. We then continued our work and developed the quarry business.

For this we thanked Ms. Brumfield.

A big thanks

Worldwide Healing Hands thanks the many participants, sponsors and other supporters who helped make this year’s Hike 4 Healing fundraiser a fun and successful event.

We are especially grateful to our Diamond sponsors ($1,000 donated): St. Helena Hospital Clearlake, Dr. Marlene Quilala, and John Clarke; our Gold sponsors ($500): Sutter Lakeside Hospital, Derrick and Alisa Barnes, Don and Anthy O’Brien, Top Speed Data Communication, Drs. Elyse and Keith Donald, and Dr. Ming-teh Chen; and our Silver sponsors ($250): Dr. Diane Pege, Dr. Corey and Amber Warner, Nicole Hill (X2nSat), and Dina Hutton. We thank the numerous additional donors and supporters who contributed financial and in-kind assistance to this year’s event.

Our hike could not have happened without the assistance of the County of Lake, Kelseyville Fire Department (especially crew members Tyler Nolan, EMT, and Matt Copenhaver, Paramedic), Foods Etc. (owners Dennis and Ruth Darling) who donated snacks and water for our participants, Docents Tom and Val Nixon and their crew of docents, People Services and van drivers Ilene Dumont and Margaurite Alves, Mountain Vista Middle School, Nathan DeHart for his willingness to hike and photograph the journey, and our many volunteers.

We are extremely grateful to all.

Thank you, enthusiastic Hike 4 Healing participants, for joining us on a windy yet beautiful trek up Mount Konocti for our third year raising money to benefit the work of Worldwide Healing Hands in its efforts to improve healthcare of women and children in Haiti and Uganda during 2016. Your support also benefits homeless and impoverished individuals in Lake County, where Worldwide Healing Hands volunteer teams conduct free health screenings in various locations intermittently through the year.

Thank you for your support. We look forward to you joining us next year!
