Middletown >> The Middletown Arts Center (MAC) is launching a new bi-monthly program, open to the public, on Saturday called “Art Talks.” It is designed to excite, enrich and inform the public about the arts including visual and performing, cinema and the written word.

In each talk, artists or art aficionados will discuss work, influences, historical context and work processes. Art Talks is an interactive experience, an opportunity to learn, expand horizons and meet people.

The first presentation will feature painter Harlan Sadberry. Born in 1945 in Stockton, Sadberry studied art at the San Francisco Art Institute (1977-1980) and is a long-time Anderson Springs resident. Sadberry will present a talk at MAC from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday. MAC is located in downtown Middletown at 21456 Highways 175 and 29. There is a $5 suggested donation. Light refreshments will be available.

Sadberry is also the security chief at Harbin Hot Springs; after assisting the guests to evacuate during the Sept. 12 Valley Fire emergency, he couldn’t get to his home in Anderson Springs. Miraculously, his house was one of the very few to survive, and in it, his series of large paintings called “The Tree of Life.” Two works from “The Tree of Life” series are part of MAC’s ninth exhibition, Loose Affiliations, on display until June 26.
