Support for Scheel
Recently I was made aware of a mailer sent out by Ted Mandrones where a quote by me was easily taken out of context in order to support his candidacy for District 4 Supervisor. While I was the Supervisor that insisted that the removal of the crane from Clear Lake was the only option that should be considered, I was supported by 3 other Supervisors in my request. Ironically, Supervisor Farrington’s comments about the removal of the crane being largely symbolic when considering the option of leaving it in the lake, is noticeably absent from Mr. Mandrones flier. I was pleased with Martin Scheel’s willingness to take responsibility for the reimbursement to the county for the cost of removal and he has begun the process as he had promised. Just as ironic is the sudden concern by Supervisor Farrington about this subject that has not been mentioned by him in all of these years, even when he supported Mr Scheel’s successful race for Lakeport City Council. It’s fascinating how election years bring out certain priorities that might otherwise not be there.
As to Mr Mandrones, I do agree with Supervisor Farrington that voters should be educated as to their choices. There are concerns that I have regarding Ted’s candidacy. I also question his judgement in giving a significant role in his campaign to someone that is knowingly being prosecuted.
In contrast, Martin Scheel showed the kind of support and selfless involvement ever since the early hours of the Valley Fire and, on behalf of my constituents, that is why I decided to support him in his efforts as a candidate for Lake County Supervisor in District 4.

Vote for Scheel
I have had the pleasure of working with Lake County Councilmember Martin Scheel on local and regional issues for several years. We have served together on several committees, including the League of California Cities, Redwood Empire Division, Legislative Committee. The Legislative committee meets in person quarterly and by conference call as needed. The committee has authority to support legislation that enhances local control, encourages the use of State incentives for local government, reforms the local government finance structure in a way that establishes a stable revenue base, and protects local funding sources. The committee opposes legislation that imposes new unfunded mandates, preempts local authority, and weakens local control.
Martin currently serves as President of the Redwood Empire Division. He has done a great job leading and strengthening the Division. His insight into the challenges we face in our rural communities throughout Northern California and the way he conveys that message will be very helpful to residents of Lake County. I strongly encourage residents of Lake County to vote for Martin Scheel, Lake County, Board of Supervisors, on June 7th. Thank you!

On Trump and Obama
Woodland reader Minnena and columnist Georgie Anne Geyer have certainly a quorum with us. Reading the national press and watching TV leaves the impression that many — too many — Americans would vote enthusiastically for Donald Trump for the presidency. This unfortunate position is saddening and hard to comprehend. Our confused and uninformed citizenry in no way excuses Trump’s actions and his words. Election of Donald Trump to the highest position of leadership would be a national embarrassment and a worldwide calamity.
Minnena’s point about an internally fragmented democracy decaying into a country ruled by the indifferent and obscenely rich was spot on. We add that correspondent Geyer’s timely and modest remarks of Obama on summing up his accomplishments as president “as passive,” the example of Obama’s “letting his opponents self-destruct, doing what was achievable at the moment.” He never overplayed his hand. It’s no longer fashionable to invade ancient civilizations pretending we have the knowledge to save them while keeping America from interventions in the Middle East.
