
CERES >> Members of the Punishers Wrestling Club of Lower Lake participated in the San Joaquin Championshps last weekend in Ceres, the final tuneup for the Punishers before the Freestyle State Championships this weekend at Selland Arena in Fresno.
Ten Punishers made the trip to Ceres, which offered freestyle and Greco divisions. Winning first-place medals in both styles was Austin Fredrickson, who topped the field in the 65-pound Novice bracket in freestyle and Greco. In his freestyle championship match, Fredrickson beat a state champion in Josiah Laird by 16-12 decision.
Blake Fredrickson came away with two medals, finishing first in the Cadet 112-pound freestyle bracket and second in the Greco bracket. He was 7-0 overall in freestyle competition.
Jayden Roath was the other first-place medal winner as he upset the No. 1 seed in his bracket and scored a late second-round pin to win in Greco competition. He added a third-place medal in freestyle.
Also winning two medals apiece were:
— Adam Viramontes, seconds in freestyle and Greco.
— Mario Cuellar, second in freestyle in the 85-pound schoolboy bracket and third in Greco.
— Tristan Day, second in Greco and third in freestyle.
— Mason Roath, third in both Greco and freestyle.
Also winning medals were Jonathan Fredrickson, second in the 70-pound Greco bracket, and Hugo Salazar, third in freestyle.
The Fresno competition closes out the season for the Punishers.
