LAKE COUNTY >> The Lake County Fishing Club placed three teams in the top five of a recent FLW-sponsored 52-team high school tournament at the Delta.
Teenagers from throughout the country were entered.
The three teams — Nathan Sneed and Colton Goetjen of Upper Lake High School, Cooper Goff and Jason Gentle of Mountain Vista Middle School and Kelseyville High School, and Thomas Humphrey and Sheldon Reese of Lower Lake High School and Clear Lake High School — now advance to the regionals in October at Lake Havasu in Arizona.
Sneed and Goetjen came in second with 16.1 pounds while Goff and Gentle were close behind in third place with 15.13 pounds. Humphrey and Reese were fourth overall with 15.3 pounds.
The Lake County Fishing Club consists of teenage fishermen from throughout the county. They compete in tournaments rain or shine and pay all their own costs.
The club is holding its first open tournament Sunday at Konocti Vista Casino and Marina. According to club organizer Deanna Goff, boaters are needed to take the youngsters out on the lake. Tournament hours are 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a barbecue and raffle follows. Those boaters who can provide a boat and assistance should call Goff at 245-4833.
