
RENO >> The Lakeport Basketball Club took six teams to a Memorial Day tournament in Reno last weekend and three did very well against a field that included teams from all over the West.
Boys and girls in the fourth through 11th grades compete for the Lakeport Basketball Club teams.
The ninth-grade boys finished 3-1 overall, winning their final three games to claim their bracket. They beat Sonora Lightning 52-38 on Monday in the championship game after knocking off the Scotts Valley Warriors 63-33 in the semifinals. Team members, all eighth- and ninth-graders, are TJ Marcks, Joey Mendonca, Josh Damiata, Seth Mix, Austin Land, Tyler Cerini, Darius Ford, Rodrigo Lupercio, Brady McGuire and Garrett Smith. They were coached by Paul McGuire.
Also posting a 3-1 record was the Lakeport Basketball Club’s JV girls team, which consisted of eighth-, ninth- and 10th-graders. After going 2-0 in pool play the JVs beat Idaho Hoops 31-30 in the semifinals. They lost 57-46 to Team Elite out of Utah to finish second. Team members were Emily Keiser, Ashlynn Gudmundson, Nicole Duncan, Skye Bruch, Mackenzie Turner, Kortnie Reynolds, Kayli Persons, Corin Alakzsay, Valerie Hutton, Camille Donald and Kiana Richardson. They were coached by Kory Reynolds.
Lake County Select, a varsity boys’ team consisting of Clear Lake High and Lower Lake High sophomores and juniors, finished 3-1 overall and captured the consolation bracket with wins of 52-43 over Titan Varsity and 72-64 over Redline Varsity. The team consisted of Tanner Hutton, Ryan Damiata, Hokulani Wickard, Ethan Watson, Tappy Marquez, Marlon Jones, Garrett Chernoh and Max De Leon. Coahces were Scott De Leon and Mike Damiata.
The Lakeport Basketball Club also sent fifth-, sixth- and seventh-grade boys’ teams to the tournament.
