UKIAH >> The eighth annual NCL Senior All-Star Game featuring senior baseball players from the North Central League I, II and III takes place Sunday at the Mendocino College field in Ukiah. First pitch is 12:15 p.m.

Players are divided between East and West squads. The East squad will be coached by Kelseyville’s Lou Poloni, who has been involved in all eight of the All-Star games.

“Lou and myself are the only two who have been there since the beginning,” said game director Juan Jauregui.

This year’s contest has a new sponsor, the Cloverdale American Legion. All game proceeds are used to keep the All-Star game alive. While admission is free, donations are greatly accepted.

“Any donations are used for next year’s game,” said Jauregui, the former baseball coach at Cloverdale High School.

A snack shack will be up and running during the game. Soft drinks and food, including some barbecued delicacies, will be available.

The East team features players from Kelseyville, Middletown, Clear Lake, Upper Lake, Calistoga and Sonoma Academy high schools. Lake County players expected to participate include Noah Lyndall, Zack Villalobos, Sambhava Baird, Devin Dugger, Asa Peters and Nick Pfann of Kelseyville; Tyler Manning of Clear Lake; Travis Williams, Stehen Amos, Sam Pyzer, Tyler Showen, Matt Wiloth and Brett Pike of Middletown; and Anthony Percival of Upper Lake.

The West team will be coached by St. Helena’s Darrell Quirici and will feature players from St. Helena, Cloverdale, Willits and Anderson Valley.

Jauregui said he hopes the game will continue well into the future and has some special plans for a 10th anniversary game in 2018.
