RENO >> The Lower Lake Storm girls’ basketball team stormed through its bracket last weekend at a tournament in Reno, winning all four of its games in the varsity girls’ division.
After beating the Warriors 75-58 in the semifinals, the Storm won a low-scoring 35-32 decision against Bay Area Rush in the championship game.
“We played really good defense,” Storm coach Dave Milano said of the finals.
All 11 Storm members play their high school basketball at Lower Lake. They were presented with medals and a team trophy.
Milano, who spent last season as the junior varsity girls’ basketball coach at Lower Lake High School, said he has been taking teams to the Memorial Day tournament for five years.
“There are thousands of teams there (of all age groups),” Milano said.
Lower Lake was one of 12 teams in its division, according to Milano.
Team members are Samantha Caires, Katelyn Farrell, Vanessa Hughes, Aleia Milano, Elizabeth Ingalls, Maile Weldon, Tara Denson, Alisha King, Claire Alderson, Anahi Robles and Caity Pesonen.
