FRESNO >> Blake Fredrickson won not one but two state titles last weekend while competing for the Punishers Wrestling Club of Lower Lake during the California USA Freestyle and Greco State Championships at Selland Arena in Fresno.
It has been a banner year all the way around for Fredrickson, who as a Lower Lake High School wrestler this past season set the school’s record for most wins by a freshman and went on to finish fifth in his weight class at the North Coast Section Championships.
In Fresno, Fredrickson won his age group and weight group in the cadet 100-pound division in Greco competition and he added another Greco title in the junior age group at 100 pounds. He has won a total of seven California USA state titles during his career.
While there were no other state title winners for the Punishers, there were several strong performances. Isaiah Rubio came in second in the 65-pound novice division in freestyle action; Jonathan Fredrickson finished third in the 70-pound schoolboy division in freestyle, his only loss a 6-0 semifinal decision to the eventual champion; Carter Rudolph placed fourth in the 75-pound-plus bantam division in freestyle; Austin Fredrickson claimed fifth place in freestyle, his only two losses coming to Tristan Lorraine from Elite Force; and Hugo Salazar and Mason Roath picked up eight-place finishes in Greco.
The tournament closes out the Punishers’ 10th season, during which time the club’s wrestlers have amassed 17 state titles, one national title, one world championship title and multiple state, national and world placings.
