LAKE COUNTY >> The Lake County Board of Supervisors plans to finally solidify a repayment plan at its regular meeting today for the abatement of District 4 Supervisorial candidate Martin Scheel’s crane that was sunk in Clear Lake nearly five years ago.

According to the agreement, which also includes a promissory note, Scheel would pay a total of $55,906.07 through biannual installments — $2,795.30 — over a period of ten years. If he fails to make his payments, the interest-free plan will default.

The crane’s removal in 2011 originally cost about $4,000 more but the candidate sold it for scrap and used the proceeds as a down payment.

As previously reported by the Record-Bee, he claimed to have never received an official bill since he was found liable for the cost of the extraction by the Board in January 2011.

Scheel couldn’t be reached for comment.
