Upper Lake >> The Lake County Sheriff’s Office delivered a third strike over the weekend, discovering nearly 14,000 marijuana plants growing on a parcel in Upper Lake. Law enforcement officials also destroyed an illegal crop on the same location a year ago.
In fact Saturday’s operation marked the third time in as many years law enforcement seized a marijuana crop from the plot.
Detectives said they spotted marijuana on the parcel located in the 2900 block of Valley View Road in Upper Lake during a routine overflight mission. With support from the federally funded California National Guard Counterdrug Team, who assisted with the eradication, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Narcotics Unit served a search warrant Saturday at about 9 a.m.
Law enforcement located and eradicated 13,816 marijuana plants on the property, according to Lt. Steve Brooks, LCSO public information officer.
“Detectives said it appeared that four subjects were living in the grow area, based on evidence found at the scene, but were unable to find anyone at the time they served the warrant,” he added in a press statement.
During a search of the area, detectives located ammunition, but were did not find firearms.
Law enforcement officers believe the grow site is associated with a private residence located nearby. Law enforcement officials are still investigating to confirm any link between the home and grow area.
