
LAKEPORT >> There was no shortage of bumping and thumping on the quarter-mile paved oval Saturday night during racing action at the Lakeport Speedway.
The Lakeport-Ukiah Challenge continues this coming Saturday at the Ukiah Speedway where the Taco Bell bombers, jammer, modifieds, Pro-4 modifieds and pro drifters are racing. Racing action returns to Lakeport on July 2 when the annual Kelseyville Lumber Deake Lyndall Memorial takes place featuring the bombers, vintage cars, modifieds and Northern California Modifieds. On July 3, action shifts to the Ukiah Speedway where the bandoleros, bombers, jammers Legends Cars, modifieds and Northern California Modifieds compete. Fireworks shows will be held at dusk at both venues.
Following are some of the highlights from last week’s action in Lakeport:
Bandoleros
Raymond Taylor won the heat race and the main event. In the main event, he beat Lane Anderson and Trey Daniels to the finish line.
Bombers
Darin Snider won the first heat and Lauren Snider took the second heat during the bomber competition. The main event went to Kevin Bracket, who took the checkered flag in front of Bob Mook, Brandon Verde, Josh Morrison and Bobby Gilbert.
Jammers
Justin Moran had a good night in the jammers division, winning both the heat race and the main event. In the feature race, he beat out Danny Helm Sr., Gene Odell Sr., Elizabeth Ingalls and Steven Sprague.
Legends
James Stillman and Bill Kistenmacher were the heat race winners in the Legends class. In the main event, it was Luis Tyrell taking the checkered flag in front of Zach Frazer, Kistnemacher, Jaden Fisher and Carlee Austin.
Jalopies
Valicia Bartlow won the Jalopies main event. Wayne Hunt came in second, Jessy Thurman finished third, Brandon Smalls ended up fourth and John Barker was fifth.
