LAKEPORT >> Thousands of Lake County library patrons now have free online and mobile access to more than 500,000 movies, music, eBooks, comics and more. This Netflix-like alternative offers a veritable buffet to satisfy every media need in your family. Lake County Library card-holders in good standing have 24/7 online and mobile access to literally thousands of titles.

This revolutionary digital service has been made possible through the partnership of hoopla digital (not to be confused with the hoopla gaming company) and the Lake County Library. From Hollywood blockbusters to top selling authors and artists, even the hard-to-find titles, hoopla digital offers you freedom to discover and enjoy what you want, when you want and where you want!

Library patrons can instantly experience thousands of movies, television shows, audiobooks, eBooks, comics and full music albums to stream on their mobile device or PC. Movie and television content is available for 72 hours after borrowing, music albums are available for seven days and eBooks, audiobooks and comics are available for 21 days. All contents are returned automatically, so there are no late fees.

The program greatly expands library offerings. For example, a search of Ziggy Marley yielded over 37 full music albums with one audiobook and one movie available.

There truly is something for everyone in your family. Children will enjoy Read-along movies with everything from Dinosaurs Love Tacos to Counting. There is even a “Kid’s mode” setting, which allows parents to make research of children’s content easier. With the “Kid’s mode” option turned on, all content has been deemed suitable for children up to 12 years of age.

To aid in selection there is a Rotten Tomatoes rating aggregator, which takes ratings from professional movie critics. If your selection has a rating of better than 75 percent, a bright red tomato icon appears and a full upright bucket of popcorn. If your selection has a rating of less than 75 percent, a green splat icon appears with a spilled bucket of popcorn.

“Multiple reasons,” said Christopher Veach, Director of the Lake County Library, explaining why the library chose to partner with hoopla digital. “Large catalog, simultaneous use and patrons do not have to wait in long lines.”

He stressed that Lake County Library had a goal to reach and that goal involved satisfying the digital and physical formats. The library has satisfied that goal and the physical format is still available for those who prefer the non-digital approach.

According to Rauno Saarinen, eResources & Discovery Specialist with Sonoma County Library, there are two ways to access hoopla digital. You have the option to visit hoopla digital directly by following the link www.hoopladigital.com or by visiting the Lake County Library website/catalog at www.library.lakecountyca.gov

Signing up is as easy as entering your library card number along with your PIN number. If you are uncertain of your PIN number, it is usually the last four digits of your phone number. The last two items needed to register is your email address and a password you will create on the registration page.
