The JDS Memorial Car Show takes place Saturday, June 18, as part of Middletown Days. Cars participating in the parade should meet at 9 a.m. at Perry’s Deli. Staging for the show starts at 10 a.m. at Twin Pine Casino.

The JDS show was founded in 2014 in memory of Jerry Self. Jerry was an avid car enthusiast who raised his daughter Teri, and sons Henry and Chris to appreciate classic cars. Especially muscle cars.

When Jerry unexpectedly passed away in July of 2011, he was in the process of restoring his 1937 Chevy coupe. He also had a 1970 El Camino which he owned for many years. When Jerry’s health begin to decline, the El Camino was parked and work on the 37 Chevy slowed.

A few months after he passed away, Teri became the owner of the El Camino. Both she and her brothers have spent hundreds of hours finishing what their Dad started with the restoration. Today the El Camino is a beauty and in 2014, the idea to honor their dad with a car show was born.

Jerry would be very proud to see his hot rod in its current condition. He would be even more proud that his only daughter has won a few trophies and awards at various car shows with the El Camino.

This year, some of the cars that are participating in the car show will be in the Middletown Days Parade. The car show will take place immediately after the parade at Twin Pine Casino with a raffle that includes the grand prize of an overnight stay at the casino, $50.00 gift card in the Manzanita Restaurant and two $25.00 free plays. Raffle tickets are a dollar each, or six for five dollars. We will also hold a 50/50 with all of the proceeds from the car show going to the kids at the after school program at Minnie Cannon Elementary.
