SAN FRANCISCO >> The man accused of killing Kelseyville resident Forrest Seagrave during a 2013 robbery of Mt. Konocti Gas & Mart is on trial in federal court after years of postponements.

Jonathan Antonio Mota, also of Kelseyville, was transferred into federal custody in April of 2013, four months after the incident, facing four charges related to the robbery, including the murder of Seagrave.

On Jan. 18, 2013, Mota allegedly robbed the Kelseyville convenience store. According to law enforcement reports, he got away with just over $250. But during the robbery Seagrave, a popular clerk at the store, was shot and killed.

Eight days later, on Jan. 26, authorities detained Mota on parole violation and possession of a weapon. After an extensive investigation, federal officials determined that Mota had been responsible for Seagrave’s death.

A trial was originally scheduled for November of 2013, but was postponed. A second and third effort to set a trial date also ended in postponement. The most recent rescheduling came in March of this year, just one week before the court date.

The trial, held at the federal courthouse in San Francisco, began on June 7 and is expected to last at least four weeks.
