LAKEPORT >> On Wednesday, June 22 John Goulart, a Vietnam veteran who served our country from 1972 — 1978, will receive his long overdue high school diploma from the Lake County Office of Education (LCOE). Certificates of Appreciation will also be presented by representatives of Congressman Mike Thompson, Senator Mike McGuire and Assemblymember Bill Dodd at 2:30 p.m. in the Kesey Room at the Lake County Office of Education in Lakeport located at 1152 S. Main Street.
Through Operation Recognition, a project of Lake County Office of Education, high school diplomas are awarded to qualifying individuals whose secondary education was interrupted due to circumstances of service in the U.S. Military or who were interned in WWII relocation centers for Japanese Americans.
Many people in our communities were unable to graduate with their high school class due to military service in World War II (December 7, 1941-December 31, 1946), the Korean War (June 25, 1950-January 31, 1955), or the Vietnam War (February 28, 1961-May 7, 1975).
The ceremony honoring Veteran Goulart is open to the public.
