Lucerne >> Elks Lodge 2704 performed the flag ceremony at the Northshore Community Center on Flag Day, June 14.

Dave Eby was master of ceremony and talked about the origin of Flag Day and presented two flags, one with 48 stars which was presented to the American Legion in Hopland by President Theodore Roosevelt. The second flag was presented to the Hopland American Legion by a representative appointed on President George W. Bush’s behalf.

Eby then introduced the officers of Lakeport Elks Lodge 2704. Exalted Ruler Herb Cline led the ceremony which outlined the origin of the American flag to its present day configuration and glory.

“The presentation was emotional on many levels and the presenters did an admirable job,” Gerald Mohl said.

Following the Flag Day presentation attendees were treated to an ice cream social.
