Intellectual honesty

I hate to admit I’m wrong. However, in Dec. of last year, I wrote a letter to the Bee after reading the Qur’an and seeing how the Syrians acted in Germany, not to mention ISIS, that suggested barring any Syrians from coming into the U.S. Mr. Blinn of Kelseyville challenged my letter and reasoning.

Unfortunately for me, Mr. Blinn was correct! One of the most recent examples to support his position was the recent slaughter in Orlando. The person who initially contacted the FBI to warn them that Omar Mateen was a dangerous individual was a Muslim! In both the U.S. and Europe, Muslims have been in the forefront in assisting law enforcement in investigating those individuals who subscribe to radical Islam and either harm or wish to harm others.

And so, as President Obama has suggested, we should judge Muslims on a case by case basis–the same way we judge anyone else. My letter was misleading and simply wrong.

Mac attack

Mac said, “Liberalism is a disease of the mind that inhibits rational and reasonable thinking.” RB 6-21. He then says that the 6-11 opinion page proved it. I looked at them and see one saying Trump should show his tax returns. Who started this? That’s right. It was his opponents during the primary. Republicans, I believe. Even the Senate leader has said Trump should do it. Another says more respect should be shown during public discourse. Even the House Speaker has stated that some of Trumps expressions are the very definition of racism. And the last one about how Republicans are following Trump to destruction? Many prominent republicans have said the same thing: the Bushes; Romney; Kasich. But if a Democrat says it, he is a Jackass. By the way, Mac, Democrats have not adopted the jackass as their symbol though the Republicans have adopted the elephant. The jackass association originates from the mid 1800s. Then his last bit of wisdom, “10 Arab nations didn’t make a $100 million donation to the Clinton Foundation out of the kindness of their hearts”. Would he say that when the USA makes a donation (called Foreign Aid) to another nation we make it out of the kindness of our hearts? So why does he expect foreign governments to do so? Is he implying that these governments could be influenced to not commit human rights violations with a Republican President? Does George W ring any bells? Abu Ghraib? And this was a government that Bush said was on our side! Come on Mac. It is time to get new liberal friends.
