Second Amendment
I would like to explore Bill Wink’s (RB 6-22) understanding of the second amendment. The amendment says, in part, ‘the right of the people to keep and bear Arms’. I see no language concerning the purchase of said arms. You have the right to keep and carry the arms you have but no right to purchase any. Does this make sense? Of course not. So this amendment allows you to purchase arms as well. Out with the definition of arms: A weapon, especially a firearm: troops bearing arms; ICBMs, bombs, and other nuclear arms. So I should be allowed to purchase an Abrams M1-A1 tank if I can afford it. But the government disallows purchase of military arms by civilians. Does Mr. Wink think this is a violation of the second amendment? Mr. Wink has to say yes. Otherwise, he is admitting that government regulation on the sale of arms is OK. What about criminals? They are citizens of the USA so they should be able to purchase and bear arms as well. Right Mr. Wink? Who else has their rights trod upon? And where in that second amendment does it say that a waiting period is not allowed? Does it say the government can’t perform background checks? If you allow even one exception then you must allow all reasonable exceptions. Too bad. I had my eye on a used ICBM.
