POCATELLO, IDAHo >> The last Punisher standing for the 2015-16 youth wrestling season ended his year with a solid effort last week at the Cliff Keen West Kids/Cadet Regionals in Holt Arena on the Idaho State University campus.
Isaiah Rubio of the Lower Lake Punisher Wrestling Club competed in folkstyle, Greco-Roman and freestyle in the 65-pound novice bracket during the week-long competition.
After going 3-2 and finishing just shy of a medal in folkstyle, Rubio bounced back strong in Greco-Roman with a 6-2 record that included a pair of pins and three wins by technical fall. Added up it amounted to a fifth-place medal. Rubio picked up a second medal, this one for sixth place, with a 5-3 record in freestyle with two pins and two technical falls.
Rubio qualified for the Regionals earlier this month when he placed second at the USA Wrestling California Freestyle Championships in Fresno.
Rubio’s participation in the Regionals officially closes out the Lower Lake Punisher season.
