LAKEPORT >> A Preliminary Examination was placed on the criminal court calendar last week in the matter of People vs. Ricky Roberts. Deputy District Attorney Edward Borg was present in court and on his motion, due to insufficient evidence, the Court ordered Counts 1-5 be dismissed.

The dismissed Counts include Assault, Kidnapping and False Imprisonment. Roberts still faces Counts 6-10, which include Convicted Felon In Possession Of A Firearm, Person Prohibited in Possession of Ammunition, Possession For Sale Of A Controlled Substance (2 Counts) and Plant/Cultivate/Harvest Marijuana.

Ricky Roberts, 51, of Oakland, California was arrested in May of 2016 for kidnapping, sexual assault and drugs. Clearlake Police officers responded to the 15100 block of Lakeview Avenue for the report of a battery.

On the officer’s arrival they contacted a victim, who stated she had been kidnapped at gunpoint from another county and forced to come to the city of Clearlake by a male, later identified as Roberts.

The victim told officers she physically resisted Roberts and that he used a mace-type device to her face. The victim stated to officers that she was able to escape from the residence, ran to a neighboring home and requested law enforcement immediately be notified.

The officers arrived at the residence where Roberts was located, as he attempted to escape over the rear fence. Roberts was apprehended and taken into custody.

While conducting a sweep of the residence, the officers discovered that portions of the indoor residence had been converted into an alleged indoor marijuana growing operation.

A search warrant was approved and executed on the residence, where 72 growing marijuana plants, an abundant amount of dried and processed marijuana, 110 grams of cocaine, approximately 20 grams of heroin and other evidence of narcotic sales was located.

Robert’s criminal history shows him to be a convicted felon with a prison term served for the sale of narcotics, and under those terms, Roberts is not allowed to own or possess firearms or ammunition. Clearlake Police seized a firearm and ammunition. Roberts was also found to be in possession of approximately $5,800 in U.S. currency of numerous denominations.

Roberts was present in court. He waived his right to a preliminary examination, with the court and the people consenting.

The matter is set to continue on July 6, at 8:15 a.m. for an arraignment in Department 4 at the Superior Court of Lake County in Lakeport. The defendant remains in custody at the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility and is ordered to be present.
