Clearlake >> The city will hold Independence Day events on Saturday. The Lions Club will present the annual parade at 11 a.m. from Redbud Park and will lead to Austin Park where additional festivities are planned.
Some of the events will include a car show, vendors and other entertainment. In the evening there will be a permitted fireworks show.
Every year the police department receives numerous calls from residents asking what time the fireworks start, Lt. Tim Celli said. Though the department does not know a set time, fireworks should begin when it is dark at about 8:40 p.m. Residents should give themselves plenty of time to arrive at the park to observe the show taking into account limited parking and walking distances.
“We would like to take the opportunity to remind citizens to drive safely as there should be an influx of visitors to our community to enjoy the many wonderful events our communities have to offer,” Celli said in a media release.
Keep in mind that there will be added enforcement for traffic as well as throughout the event, he said. Be mindful of speed limits, watch for pedestrians and bicyclists and if you’re going to consume alcohol be responsible and do not drink and drive.
Visitors should observe ordinances which are posted at the entrances of the parks. A few reminders are as follows: there are no alcoholic beverages allowed in city parks. The only exception to this will be at Austin Park and only by the permitted vendor with an authorized wrist band.
Park goers should also be aware dogs must be on a 6-foot leash, there are no glass containers allowed inside the park and there is no smoking inside the park area.
Speed limits in parks are limited to 5 mph.
Non-permitted fireworks are not allowed in Clearlake, “please be aware, we are still experiencing drought and the city is surrounded by extreme fire danger areas,” Celli said. “Please do not risk others safety for a few thrills.”
