Fireworks
Fireworks permitted for the Fourth of July, page 5 June 28.
What it did not address strongly was fireworks are NOT PERMITTED OUTSIDE CITY LIMITS. North and South Lakeport are County. Visitors and some locals don’t seem to know the difference. I have for a number of years contacted the City of Lakeport about posting signs at the city limits to inform them, hopefully this year it will happen.
We have fireworks set off in North Lakeport frequently, but not long enough for the Sheriffs to see them, it is mostly the same parcels each year, some are vacation homes, some are locals. I am hoping that it is only their property that is damaged not others from their lack of good sense..

Diminishing returns
I suspect that I am too old and too WASP to have a meaningful opinion, but I think all of the “gay pride” spectacles and performances have gotten to the point of diminishing returns and we have passed the point between announcement and alienation.
There is a vast difference between “tolerance’, most often based on law, and “acceptance”. Flaunting one’s differences does not seem to me to be the appropriate way to meld into the vast majority of our population and that is really what I feel is the goal of the so-called “Gay community”.
Thinking people know that homosexuality is a “born with” trait, as is discovering one was born in the “wrong” body. Not the person’s “fault”, not something learned or teachable, not damnable, just a fact to live with!
Certainly hiding is not the answer, but, then, neither is flaunting!

Let’s celebrate freedom!
Fourth of July is one of America’s favorite holidays. We proudly celebrate the freedom and independence our brave soldiers fought hard to gain and keep.
Some abuse their freedom by driving drunk. Driving drunk can limit the freedom of victims.
When I was 16 in 1992 and a Junior at Tracy High, a drunken driver hit me. Schooling and playing sports against other San Joaquin county schools ended.
The crash put me in a coma for 100 days with broken and dislocated bones, paralysis, and brain injuries that affect me daily. I spent 7 months in two hospitals and then had 17 months of therapy.
I lost my freedom to live independently. I cannot drive, do certain jobs and it is difficult touring the beaches, deserts, forests, and fields of beautiful California because my hearing, talking and walking are impaired.
Show your American spirit by designating a sober driver if you drink. Do not drive drunk.
Freedom does not include cuffs and steel bars.
