
Lakeport >> The Pacific Chapter of the Neuropathy Association in Lakeport will meet on July 13 at 1:30 p.m. at Lakeport Senior Activity Center, 527 Konocti Ave.
Neuropathy is damage to or disease affecting nerves, which may impair sensation, movement, gland or organ function, or other aspects of health. Common causes include systemic diseases such as diabetes or leprosy, vitamin deficiency, medication, chemotherapy, traumatic injury, immune system disease or viral infection.
The association estimates there are more than two million people in California suffering from neuropathy. Symptoms of it include numbness, tremor, impairment of balance and gait abnormality tingling, pain, muscle twitch and itching. Neuropathic pain is difficult to control and can seriously affect emotional well-being and overall quality of life. This month, the group will continue with easy exercise and discuss medication and supplements.
Those interested in exploring the ins and outs of neuropathy are welcome to attend these free support meetings, which are held monthly at Lakeport Senior Activity Center. Donations are welcome and appreciated.
