Lakeport >> Three seats will soon be up for election on the City Council, with the terms of Lakeport Mayor Marc Spillman as well as councilmembers Martin Scheel and Kenny Parlett ending.

Spillman said when he was voted as mayor he would not seek re-election, meanwhile Scheel is currently on the ballot as a candidate for Lake County supervisor. It is unknown if Parlett will run for another term.

Official nomination papers will be available on July 18 for candidates who are interested in running for the office of city council member for the city of Lakeport. The three seats available each have for a four-year term.

Interested candidates must be registered to vote and reside within the city limits of Lakeport.

The deadline to file nomination papers for the above offices is Aug. 12 at 5 p.m. Each candidate must be nominated by not less than 20 nor more than 30 registered voters; therefore, it is recommended that he or she pick up nomination papers well in advance of the deadline for filing to allow time to gather signatures.

If you are interested in running for Lakeport City Council, contact Hilary Britton, deputy city clerk, at (707) 263- 5615, extension 12, for further information and to set up an appointment to pick up and go over the nomination packet.
