NICE >> In an exciting boxing card at Robinson Rancheria Resort and Casino, Levan “The Wolf” Ghvamichava certainly turned things around from his last fight, using his quick jab and counterpunching to score a seventh-round TKO against Colombian journeyman Breidis Prescott on Tuesday night in a welterweight match.
Unlike his last bout against Sergey Lipinets, the Eastern European’s defense never wavered, even in the face of strong right hooks and body combinations from his opponent. Yet, he owed his success to his jab.
The two were even in the early rounds but halfway through the fourth round Ghvamichava caught Prescott against the ropes and connected with a clean right hand.
The Colombian was able to get back up, but the southpaw, who’s now a resident of Hayward, dominated for the rest of round and the rest of the fight.
It all came to a crescendo in the seventh when “The Wolf” sent Prescott flying, his first of three knockdowns in the round. The veteran kept getting up, but with brutal multi-punch combinations that finished with brutal uppercuts, he brought him back to the mat.
Prescott got up a third time, but was instantly trapped in the corner with a barrage of punching, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
With the win, Ghvamichava moves to 17-2-1 (13 KOs) while Prescott (29-8, 21 KOs) suffered his eighth loss in his last 18 fights.
Notes; Ghvamichava threw 98 more punches than Prescott … There were four fights in the undercard. In the co-main event, Marcus Hernandez of Fresno won by unanimous decision over Thomas Hill of Milwaukee.
