BURLINGAME >> Engaging Faith in the Public Square was the topic of the 168th Session of The California-Nevada Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church (UMC), held June 22 through 25 in Burlingame.

Lake County was represented by several in the ministry. In attendance from the Great Northern District were Pastor John Pavoni and Jo Bennett of Lower Lake Community United Methodist Church, Pastor Shannon Kimbell-Auth of Clearlake UMC and Middletown UMC, Pastor Cindy Lawler and Jeannie of Clearlake UMC.

Bishop Warner H. Brown, Jr., presided over the conference, which covered four days and three nights.

“The event was empowering and uplifting,” Bennett said. “The diversity of groups, global ministries, and partnerships that build mutual relationships was felt by everyone that attended.”

This conference addressed issues that confront everyday lives and events. Documentation was presented, items discussed and votes cast.

“We had booths that passed out literature, answered questions and gathered signature on many topics that affect young and old,” Bennett added. “It was a time of fellowship, singing, praying and worship, not just for California but for all people of the world. It was a pleasure to attend this Conference and meet people of like faith and interest.”
