KELSEYVILLE >> Chacewater Winery and Olive Mill will host its Black Label Wine Release and Music Festival on July 30.
The festival takes place on the winery’s grounds and crush facilities in Kelseyville.
Paul Manuel said that while his Chacewater Winery has been recognized widely, “the quality of this release exceeds anything we’ve produced to date.” At the 2016 Los Angeles International Wine Competition in May, Chacewater won a gold medal and earned 92 points for its 2015 Sauvignon Blanc made with organically grown grapes.
The Black Label release this year is a new Malbec named Krev, which comes from the Cornish word meaning robust and powerful, according to Manuel.
“Wines are about commitment to the grapes, to the barrels, and to the time it takes to make great wine,” winemaker Mark Burch said. “We take baby steps in the process to get there and it shows in the results.” Burch added that there are a lot of fruit flavors among some of the other aromas that appear in tasting the new Krev.
He said that the festival is their way of celebrating their commitment to the wine. “We really wanted to honor that commitment. What better way than to invite all our club members, families, and both old and new friends to share in the excitement?” New and current wine club members get free festival tickets.
In addition to the wine tasting, there will be food and craft vendors, as well as a 5K Fun Run at 8 a.m. The music portion of the festival includes three bands, Twice As Good, Jones & Fischer, Paige Anderson & the Fearless Kin and a special guest appearance by singer Tony Neves to highlight the day-long festival beginning at 11 a.m.
New this year is an early morning hot air balloon fundraising ride at 6 a.m. Manuel said, “All the money the participants pay for this balloon ride is being donated by Napa Valley Balloons to the Valley Fire victims through LakeCountyRising.org.” Manuel added that Chacewater is donating the proceeds from the $15 ticket sales to the Lake Family Resources Center in Kelseyville.
