UKIAH >> Racing fans — car and motorcycle — are in for a real treat as the 80th annual Redwood Empire Fair prepares to launch in Ukiah.

The fair opens Aug. 4 and runs through Aug. 7 at the Ukiah Fairgrounds. Fair admission, which includes grandstand events and entertainment, is $9 for adults and $7 for children ages 6-12 and senior citizens. Children age 5 and younger get in free. Parking at the fair is $7.

The fair opens at 3 p.m. on Aug. 4-5 and at noon on Aug. 6-7. On Aug. 4, children and senior citizens will be admitted free as long as they enter the fair before 6 p.m.

The motorsports schedule includes motorcycles, side-by-sides and ATVs on Aug. 4. The Mudd Boggs take over on Aug. 5 and the truck and tractor pulls are scheduled for Aug. 6. The action wraps up Aug. 7 with the Dirt Nationals, jalopies and boat races. All events except the Dirt Nationals, which begin at 7 p.m., get underway at 6 p.m.

The boat races are a fan-favorite event at both the Ukiah and Lakeport speedways. Cars tow boats behind them in a destruction derby-type event where pretty much anything goes.
