HIDDEN VALLEY >> A Clearlake man was arrested and then hospitalized following a rollover accident that blocked Highway 29 on Monday afternoon.
Isidoro Diaz-Garcia, 57, was placed under arrest at the scene by California Highway Patrol officers, who suspected him of driving under the influence. He was then transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries.
A passenger in Diaz-Garcia’s vehicle suffered little more than superficial injuries, according to an initial report by the CHP.
Police reports indicate that Diaz-Garcia was driving northbound in an SUV on Monday afternoon at. After passing the intersection with Hofacker Lane, he allowed the vehicle to drift off the road, hitting a road sign.
Diaz-Garcia apparently tried to regain control, veering the SUV back onto the road. Crossing into the southbound lane, he turned the wheel sharply. At this point the SUV tipped and began to roll down the road.
After rolling several times, Diaz-Garcia’s vehicle came to rest in the southbound lane of Hwy. 29.
Officers at the scene reported both Diaz-Garcia and his passenger were wearing safety belts. The CHP did not indicate speed as a factor, but arrested the driver on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI.
