LAKE COUNTY >> You can add a 5-gallon bucket to your bucket list during the High School Bucket Challenge on Sept. 3-4.

Sponsored by Mendo Mill Home Center & Lumber Co., the bucket challenge is a fundraiser for high school sports programs in Lake and Mendocino counties. Participating Mendo Mill stores in Lakeport, Clearlake, Ukiah, Willits and Fort Bragg will chop off 20 percent of anything you buy at their stores and can fit into a 5-gallon bucket during those two days only (some store items are exempt). All you need to do is purchase a 5-gallon bucket for $5 and Mendo Mill will match that $5 and donate $10 to the high school sports program of your choice.

Customers at the Mendo Mill store in Lakeport can donate to either the Kelseyville, Clear Lake or Upper Lake sports programs. Customers at the Clearlake store can choose either Lower Lake or Middletown. The Ukiah, Willits and Fort Bragg stores donate to the high schools in their respective cities.

The 20-percent customer discount applies only to purchases made Sept. 3-4. Ask a store employee what items are exempt from the bucket discount.

The Lakeport Mendo Mill store donated $2,560 to Clear Lake High, $2,000 to Kelseyville and $1,420 to Upper Lake in 2015. In all, the five Mendo Mill stories in Lake and Mendocino counties raised $18,630 a year ago.

Lakeport’s Mendo Mill store is located at 2465 S. Main St. Clearlake’s Mendo Mill store is located at 5255 Old Highway 53.
