The dean of small school football in the Redwood Empire, Middletown High School head coach Bill Foltmer, opens his 32nd season at the helm of Mustangs when practice for the 2016 season officially begins Monday throughout the North Coast Section. Foltmer’s first season at Middletown was in 1985 when the Mustangs were members of the old North Central League II. His teams won sectional championships in 1997, 1999 and 2001 and the Mustangs have been playoff regulars almost every season since the mid-1990s. Foltmer’s high school win-loss record stands at 254-120-1. Middletown’s season opener is Sept. 2 at home against Salesian of Richmond.
