Clearlake >> A suspected drug dealer was caught by police after a short motorcycle turned foot pursuit on residential streets Monday night.

Louis Charles Carlson reportedly had 8.5 ounces of methamphetamine, an ounce of heroin and a digital scale when he was arrested. The 41-year-old Clearlake resident also had what police say were pay and owe sheets that included names of people with whom he had been engaging in narcotics transactions.

The chase began at about 7:45 p.m. when K-9 officer Travis Parson tried to pull over Carlson on Burns Valley Road for unspecified traffic violations. Carlson failed to yield to the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights and siren and led officers on a pursuit for about 1 mile, Clearlake Sgt. Tim Hobbs reported.

Parson caught Carlson several hundred yards away from where he crashed his Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Sonoma Avenue near Deertrail Road.

This was the second time in less than a month that Clearlake police have arrested Carlson. He was charged with several marijuana related counts and resisting arrest on July 18.

During this incident, Carlson fled from officer Chris Kelleher when he attempted a traffic stop at Jack in the Box. Carlson ran and was caught by the officer on Old Highway 53.

The suspect allegedly had half an ounce of methamphetamine, a digital scale and almost 4 ounces of concentrated cannabis. Additionally, in the vehicle there were 6 pounds of processed marijuana and 66 plants.

Carlson was booked into the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility, but bailed out shortly after.

He now faces additional charges of felony evading, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance for sales, possession of a narcotic controlled substance for sales, transportation of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended driver’s license. Carlson was again booked into the county jail and later released.

Anyone with information regarding the unlawful possession or sales of controlled substances can contact the Clearlake Police Department at (707) 994- 8251. Callers may remain anonymous.
