Lakeport>> The Pacific Chapter of the Neuropathy Association in Lakeport will meet on Aug. 18 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lakeport Senior Activity Center, at 527 Konocti Ave.

Nancy Rhodes, of Lake Yoga, will show gentle yoga exercise on chair. This month’s meeting will also include a discussion on medication and supplements.

Neuropathy is damage to or disease affecting nerves, which may impair sensation, movement, gland or organ function or other aspects of health. Common causes include systemic diseases such as diabetes or leprosy, vitamin deficiency, medication, chemotherapy, traumatic injury, immune system disease or viral infection.

The neuropathy association estimates there are more than two million people in California suffering from it. Symptoms of neuropathy includes numbness, tremor, impairment of balance and gait abnormality tingling, as well as pain and muscle twitch and itching. Neuropathic pain is difficult to control and can seriously affect emotional well-being and overall quality of life.

Those interested in exploring the ins and outs of neuropathy are welcome to attend these free support meetings, which are held monthly at Lakeport Senior Activity Center. Donations are welcome and appreciated.
