REDDING >> Ten teams braved the triple digit heat today to lift up their neighbors in need after rain back in May put the damper on the first attempt by the Good News Rescue Mission to launch it’s first ever “Lift ‘Em Up” event. The event tallied just under $40,000 of it’s $50,000 goal as the last lift came down today. Donations can still be made to support a team through midnight tonight. Winners will be announced tomorrow.
“Grateful. If there is one word to sum up how we feel about the event today, that’s it,” said Event Coordinator, Sabrina Charlson.
“Lift-Em-Up” was originally structured as a three week fundraising campaign that encouraged business, churches and service clubs to creatively raise money by hosting their own small-scale fund raisers or simply by asking friends, family and colleagues to sponsor them. At today’s event, ten teams competed atop five scissor lifts in one final hour-long fund raising push as they were lifted up in proportion to their team’s overall fund raising success. The top team will be declared the winning team tomorrow as donations can still be made toward their totals through midnight tonight. The Mission had hoped to raise $50,000 overall and stands at just under the $40,000 mark right now.
“This event, the title, everything was designed around what we’re trying to do for people in need in our community, to lift them up,” said Mission Event Coordinator, Sabrina Charlson, “because so many people just need a small hand up to get back on their feet again.”
Teams today included Apex Technology Management, the California Highway Patrol Northern Division, Oak Grove Community Church, Adam McElvain of Pacific Sky Marketing and numerous other which joined teams from the May attempt which included Cronic Disaster Services, InterWest Insurance, Brent Weaver and the Mission’s Executive Director, Jonathan Anderson.
