LAKEPORT >> Community Care HIV/AIDS Program is soliciting support for Lake County’s 9th annual AIDS Walk. The proceeds from this event support services to people living with HIV/AIDS in our community, as well as education, outreach, and prevention to the population at large in Lake County.
The AIDS Walk is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Lakeport’s Library Park. The organization is asking that local businesses and individuals collaborate with them to address this continuing epidemic.
State funding for HIV/AIDS support programs continues to be reduced and many of the services that clients count on have been cut back severely. AIDS WALK will help continue to support clients with care management, some financial and housing assistance, and support groups. Community Care HIV/AIDS Program (CCHAP) is also a leader in providing HIV prevention education to young people — alarmingly, one of the fastest growing population affected by HIV/AIDS.
In February of 2014 the organization began a testing program and they are currently the only agency in Lake County to provide Free Anonymous Rapid HIV Testing for the community.
