Lucerne >> Residents looking to speak their minds and take action about town issues now have a time and place to do so. The new forum “Lucerne Speaks” at the Northshore Community Center was created to galvanize residents into taking action and making a broader difference in the community.

“We’re here to come together, roll up our sleeves, and get things done,” Kurt McKelvey, host of the weekly forum, said. “Lately we’ve been focusing on issues like the local water rate crisis, and emergency preparedness.”

This week’s meeting on Thursday will be a special session, featuring a Skype interview with Bay Area journalist Audrey Dilling regarding the Lucerne water rate crisis, as well as a briefing about emergency preparedness and how residents can best prepare themselves against a sudden natural catastrophe.

“We need to be organized if we’re going to make a difference in anything, whether it’s lowering the price of our water or raising our standards of preparedness,” McKelvey stated.

Lucerne Speaks is held every Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Northshore Community Center (formerly known as the Lucerne Senior Center) on 3985 Country Club Drive in Lucerne.
