Lakeport >> The 1971 wartime drama, “Johnny Got His Gun,” starring Timothy Bottoms, Kathy Fields and Donald Sutherland, screens at the Soper Reese Theatre Tuesday at 1 and 6 p.m.

This is the story of a young American soldier hit by an artillery shell on the last day of the World War I. When he regains consciousness 20-year-old Joe Bonham slowly discovers that while his brain is healthy and able to reason, the rest of his body is irreparably shattered, leaving him forever trapped within the confines of his own imagination. Tapping his head in Morse code he is able to express to his caretakers a surprising wish. Original novel and screenplay adaptation by Dalton Trumbo.
