Lower Lake >> Six Sigma Winery announced the hiring of Sonoma County winemaker Sandy Robertson.

Born in Hong Kong, bred in England, Robertson started his career working at wineries in France and England and graduated from Plumpton College, University of Brighton, with honors in Viticulture and Oenology.

Even if Robertson has his roots in the old world, he wanted to add a new-world winemaking experience when he in 2007 headed to Sonoma County to work in the cellar at Merry Edwards Winery.

“I just loved California — the wine, the cheese, even the beer. It was all amazing.” he said. “I stayed after harvest and decided to make California my home.”

Robertson moved up the ranks to become Assistant Winemaker for the prestigious brand. In late 2014 he struck out on his own, consulting for Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits, collaborating with Dan Goldfield to make Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for The Calling.

Robertson was welcomed by the tight-knit Six Sigma team on August 1.

“Robertson is a great find for the job. He fits right in with his expansive skill set, attention to detail and great personality,” said Wayne Donaldson who assisted in the selection process. Donaldson has supported Six Sigma Winery as a Consulting Winemaker almost since its inception.

Robertson is an avid sportsman and an enthusiastic hiker. “My wife Erin and I are looking forward to exploring the roads and trails of the 4,300-acre Six Sigma Ranch with our Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Pickle,” he said.
