According to the medical establishment there is no known cure for Alzheimer’s Disease. And that may be true. However when one digs deep into the internet, using your trusty Google search bar, one may find a different reality.

But let’s start from the beginning.

The greatest fear amongst seniors in this country is not public speaking, as it is for the general population. It’s losing one’s faculties, more specifically, losing one’s mind due to neurodegenerative disease.

This is very hot topic now as dementia (Alzheimer’s is a form of dementia) is now the fifth leading cause of death in the U.S. and continues to soar. Due to this topics extraordinary complexity I will use two articles to address this horrific problem and even then only scratch the surface of this issue. But keep in mind, I cannot diagnose or treat as a writer. What I can and will do is be a guide, and hopefully stimulate further investigation for the reader.

But before I discuss natural solutions for halting and even reversing Alzheimer’s, let’s talk about an ounce of prevention, which as we know is worth a pound of cure. It turns out that the many ways and means to halt dementia are virtually the same ways and means to prevent it.

How did we become so prone to cognitive decline in the first place? As I tell my patients, we live in an ever increasing toxic world, and that is exacerbated by sugar and other health challenging foods.

In fact, several years ago many researchers felt that Alzheimer’s was diabetes type 3. Why?

Insulin resistance in the brain is a mirror for insulin resistance in the body. That’s why diabetics have a 40 percent higher incidence of Alzheimer’s than the general population. However it’s now known that there are many other destructive influences.

Artificial sweetners such as aspartame may trigger brain cell death. High fructose corn syrup as well as refined sugar have been shown to cause brain damage. Some claim GMOs in the brain cause omega 3s in the brain to go rancid and become toxic. Alcohol even in moderation can damage brain neurons. EMFs damage brain neurons. Aluminum from antiperspirants and deodorants cause build up of heavy metals in the brain. Of course the average three pounds consumption of toxic pesticides consumed by Americans each year is also problematic.
