Lakeport >> OneJustice’s Justice Bus Project will roll into the Lake County Fairgrounds for the Lake-Mendocino Stand Down/Veterans Resource Fair Sept. 21 and 22 for free criminal record clearance and free estate planning clinics.
“This is an opportunity for individuals to meet one-on-one with an attorney 100 percent free of charge,” Maureen Slack, legal fellow at OneJustice, said.
OneJustice, a legal nonprofit based in San Francisco, is partnering with Legal Services of Northern California and the United Veterans Council of Lake County to provide the clinics.
“The mission of the Justice Bus Project is to increase the capacity of legal service providers and community based organizations serving isolated and vulnerable populations throughout the state,” Slack said.
In the past year alone, the Justice Bus Project has organized free legal clinics in 23 counties throughout California and partnered with more than 25 community based organizations to coordinate legal services for more than 900 low-income individuals, according to Slack.
The record clearance clinic will take place during the first day of the stand down from noon to 4 p.m. Participants will meet with law firm attorneys and expert attorneys to get assistance with or information about changing criminal records that may be creating barriers to meaningful employment or other opportunities.
Assistance with end-of-life planning will be offered the second day of the stand down. During the clinic, which will run from noon to 4 p.m., volunteer attorneys will meet one-on-one with clients to prepare estate planning documents, including advance healthcare directives and simple wills. If you have existing estate planning documents bring them to the clinic to be reviewed.
Space is limited for both clinics. To make an appointment or for more information, call (415) 834-0100 ext. 314.
