LAKEPORT >> The same young Clear Lake High School varsity volleyball team that rallied to beat Upper Lake in five sets in its season opener last week in Upper Lake couldn’t stand prosperity on Tuesday evening during its home opener against Rincon Valley Christian.
Leading by eight points in each of the first two sets, the Cardinals ended up getting swept by the Eagles 26-24, 26-24, 25-18 in non-league action.
“We played young tonight,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said. “We made too many mistakes. The only good thing is we have a week to work out the kinks before out next match (a week from today at home against Anderson Valley).”
Clear Lake’s most consistent players were Camille Donald and Corin Alakszay, according to Psalmonds.
Donald finished the match with three kills, two aces and 10 digs while Alakszay, who was moved to opposite hitter, added four kills, four aces and five digs.
“She’s pretty solid and keeps the kids together,” Psalmonds said of Donald. “Corin played a good match.”
Kiana Richardson registered a Clear Lake-high eight kills to go along with 10 digs. Valerie Hutton added seven kills and two aces while libero Madi Ferguson had seven digs.
Clear Lake did win the junior varsity match 25-16, 25-12 to square its season record at 1-1, the same as the varsity. Shalyn McIntire had a big night for the Cardinals with five kills, five aces and four assists.
